My family's experience with Kindred in Dover was wonderful. The entire staff and administration are caring, concerned and professional. I am positive that my relative's recovery is due solely to their expertise and willingness to work with each patient to the best of their ability. We have had two separate experiences with Kindred and both times have been more than pleased. As one of the administrators told me early on "...everyone deserves a chance.." I would highly recommend Kindred without reservation to anyone needing respiratory care.
I would like to take this opportunity to share with you my experience at Kindred Hospital.
I highly recommend this facility to any family one who is in need of their specialized care and services.
My husband was on a feeding tube , for over a month, and when we arrived at Kindred, it was a short time thereafter where he was able to swallow food, and speak clearly, and concisely. Their Repository Team was relentless; enabling his lungs going from a poor status to a stable status.

first room wasnt ready for my arrival, no bed in room. second, doctors had no clue what they were doing. only had 2 nurses and nurse's assistants who cared about their patients. horrible experience
During this very difficult time, I found the entire Staff: Doctors, Management, Respiratory Team, Nurses, and Nurses Aids to be extremely knowledgeable, and also very compassionate, and caring. The entire staff consistently monitored his daily progress, and acted immediately on any/ all issues that came-up. They were extremely diligent, and timely with all their actions, ensuring the problematic areas became stabilized , and tried to not allow them to resurface.
Overall Rating: Superior.
From a humanistic standpoint, these people went above , and beyond the call of duty. When you have a loved one that is quite ill, you become scared, and vulnerable. The entire Team treated me with compassion, and the highest level of respect which was never dismissed; whether I was at their facility; or calling in for an update on my husband’s progress. Their accountability was superior.
I want to start by saying know there is a chance for your loved one to wean from the vent; it can happen. My 85 year old mom had a stroke, was intubated on a Vent, and successfully weaned at Kindred Hospital in Dover. She was discharged from Kindred Hospital to a subacute rehab and is now eating. What happened is, she had a stroke, then was intubated on a vent, had a feeding tube, and every time the original hospital tried to wean her heart rate went up and oxygen went down. When she was at the original hospital the Pulmonologist's, Cardiologists, and other doctors in the ICU all said my mom was in the early stages of the dying process. This turned out to not be true. The doctors at the original hospital told me to consider what my mom's quality of life would be and asked if I would want her to suffer living life on a vent. They preached, ultimately she would get skin breakdown and be in pain. These doctors even went as far to tell me not to be selfish. At the second family meeting they gave me two choices. First was to give her a sedative and have her terminal wean, second was to let her stay on the vent and suffer at a long term vent facility. The doctors and social workers pushed me to choose terminal wean repeatedly. I told them I am not taking her off of the vent when she smiles at me every time I walk in the room, myself and her aide stayed by her side. It was then that the social worker told me about a place called Kindred Hospital. The first person I met from Kindred was Anne, a kind and caring nurse liaison who explained that Kindred Hospital is a national leader in vent weaning and they wean about 60% of vent patients and they have above the national average wean rate. My mom was transferred to Kindred Hospital. In less than 2 weeks the encouraging, hopeful, and helpful respiratory therapists Caesar and Andre and team were able to wean my mom from the vent. Each and every nurse there was terrific and couldn't do enough for you. Reine, and the social worker team gave us great care and attention and listened to my requests. We asked for a room change and the request was made right away. The speech therapist, Mark was amazing and took the time to be patient, answer all of my questions and listen to me, he was also upbeat. For the first time since she had a stroke I had piece of mind. My message is strong and clear, know there is a chance! My mom was weaned from the vent and is now eating and at a rehab eating. I can't thank Kindred Hospital enough.
The staff at Kindred were exceptional. The nurses, doctors, respiratory therapists and the speech director were truely professionals. The hospital he was in gave me no options for him other than to tell me he would be on a resperator for the rest of his life on a ventilator in a nursing home. Then I heard about Kindred. After 1 month he was off the resperator. I absolutely recommend them.
My Husband undertook a massive heart attack, and encountered other severe medical issues that required Kindred Hospital’s care.
